SIHH exhibition 'suggests luxury watch market is thriving once more'

The recent Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie event was a success, according to a blogger.
The "packed hallways" and "buzzing booths" at the recent Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) exhibition in Geneva have convinced one blogger the luxury watch market is over the worst of the recession.

Bruce Pask, writing a piece for the New York Times, says this year's event was quite the opposite of the "quiet post-crisis scene a year ago".

Mr Pask points to the display by Baume et Mercier as a particular highlight.

Baume et Mercier used the exhibition to show off its new luxury timepiece, the Classima Executive, which Mr Pask suggests allowed the firm to make a "strong, sleek statement".

This year's SIHH combined a mix of the chic, the historic and the complex, but what it "confirmed" for the writer is that the bright future of the fashion  watch industry depends just as much on tradition as it does innovation.

Artya and Ritmo Mvndo were two less-established luxury watch brands to make their SIHH debut in 2010 and could be ones for timepiece fanatics to watch out for in the future.ADNFCR-2664-ID-19583179-ADNFCR
